What I love in ERPNext!
It’s natural to love something that is simple yet solves all your problems. When I joined my new job at Frappe Tech I was very new to the Open Source world. My previous experience was all about standard and generic offerings. Over and above that would attract commercials.
As a business analyst in my previous job, I got a chance to study 4 industry verticals and visited around 20 different manufacturing plants. There was a lot of learning. During the phase of user training, I encountered similar type issues at every client. They wanted to change the system in terms of forms, print format, add or remove fields from a document. And we had a standard reply “ this isn’t possible” or this may attract commercial implications.
Many of them were ready to pay to get those print formats as per their requirements. This was a routine. We then used to make a PFS(print format specification) document which was sent to the technical team to develop. We had to show it to the client, take an approval and then again send to the technical team for deployment. This was a time-consuming process and if it was a bad luck for the analyst, the client will decide on a new format or may be the logo has changed in the meanwhile. Again the same cycle. Uff! I have a reasonable experience with Indian small and medium scale industries. They all need a flexibility which allows them to do certain modification in prints or in output reports.
Here in ERPNext we all this in a very quiet manner. I love this one the most. We have this beautifully simple tool inbuilt in ERPNext where you can create your own print format. Out of all “Customize” ERPNext feature is my favorite.
We are allowing to add or remove fields in a form, he can add a completely new document and can write a custom script to get a function going. Similar to this is the print format customization feature and the report builder tool. And the best part there is no commercial implication associated with this feature. So useful and free! Isn’t this awesome :-)
